PRE PURCHASE CARAVAN & CAMPERVAN INSPECTION

Purchasing used recreational vehicles (RVs) carries more risks than buying standard vehicles due to their unique usage types and the often humid or wet environments where they are parked.

As the name implies, recreational vehicles are designed for outings, road trips, and camping. Getting stranded in a remote location can be a nightmare for any traveller.

RVs encompass a variety of vehicles, including caravans, pop-tops, motorhomes, and campervans, all intended primarily for recreational purposes. However, some individuals choose to live in motorhomes, using them as their primary residences.

These vehicles comprise many components beyond mechanical and structural parts that require thorough inspection to ensure safety and reliability during travel.

A pre-purchase RV inspection is essential to avoid purchasing a problematic vehicle and to enjoy your road trip with complete peace of mind.

FULLY QUALIFIED RV INSPECTORS

At Last Check, we have specialised RV inspectors with extensive knowledge and expertise in RV repairs and inspections to assist you in finding your next used RV with complete peace of mind.

Pre-purchase RV inspections are conducted solely by our specialised RV inspectors; no random mechanic will be appointed to carry out this type of inspection.

The inspector assigned to your job understands all the pros and cons of purchasing used recreational vehicles and can assist you not only with the mechanical aspects but also advise you on the best options for your budget.

Our RV inspectors are capable of repairing and servicing all types of campervans and motorhomes and possess knowledge in converting vans to campervans, allowing you to fully rely on their expert advice to make the right decision before your purchase.

Our caravan inspectors possess extensive knowledge of caravan and motorhome fit-outs. If you plan to make any changes to your RV, you can seek their advice free of charge after the inspection. They will guide you in the right direction.

Rest assured that we have your back, and you will never purchase a lemon when you choose Last Check to inspect your next RV.

At Last Check, we conduct a comprehensive mobile visual inspection on all types of RVs, including campervans, motorhomes, camper trailers, pop-tops, and caravans. We come to your preferred location, inspecting the vehicle at your convenience, whether that be at a private residence, roadside, or dealership.

We liaise with the seller to determine a comfortable location for the inspection and carry out the pre-purchase inspection accordingly.

During the RV inspection, all visible parts are thoroughly examined by our qualified RV mechanics, including the engine, chassis, suspension, electronics, and interior. For caravans, we also inspect all components, including the body, chassis, suspension, the entire living area, and all equipment.

For all registered campervans and motorhomes, we perform a full test drive to ensure the vehicle is performing well on the road.

RV inspection is one of our specialised services and includes a variety of tests beyond those of standard vehicle inspection plans. We conduct special rust assessments on all RVs, as well as specific paint and accident evaluations for your peace of mind.

Given the variety of RVs and their fit-outs, our inspectors go beyond the market norm, where only the structure and selected items are checked. We meticulously inspect everything visible to ensure that nothing is overlooked. Only @ Last Check

MOBILE RV INSPECTION, WE COME TO YOU!

At Last Check, we perform a full mobile visual inspection on all RVs including campervans, motorhomes, camper trailers, pop-tops and caravans. We come to your preferred location and inspect the vehicle at the convenience of your own site.

During the pre purchase inspection, all visible parts of the RV get fully inspected by our qualified RV mechanics including engine, chassis, suspension, electronics and interior.

For all registered campervans and motorhomes, we perform a full test drive as well to ensure the vehicle is performing well on the road.

RV inspection is one of our specialised inspection plans and comes with many different tests from the normal vehicle inspection plans. We perform special rust assessments on all RVs as well as special paint and accident assessments for your peace of mind.

We can inform you of all mechanical faults in the RV, as well as assess rust severity and conduct a safety check. We perform a comprehensive past accident assessment to ensure the vehicle has never been involved in a major crash and that its structure is safe for travel.

Even if the vehicle has been in a crash 20 years ago, you can count on us to uncover that information for you. However, the condition of high roofs, which require a ladder for access, cannot be inspected externally during roadside inspections. At the same time, we check the internal roof liners to ensure there are no holes or watermarks.

Recreational vehicles often have rusty structures due to where they are parked and how they are used. Sometimes, it is too late, and the severity of rust can significantly impact the safety and value of the vehicle for the rest of its life.

The rust inspection we perform is 100% accurate. Using electronic devices and expert inspectors, we can reveal even hidden rust beneath the body paint.

All pre-purchase RV inspection reports include hundreds of photographs of all parts of the RV, as well as all reported defects, allowing you to see everything for yourself and leaving nothing to guesswork.

Simply book your inspection, inform your seller to expect a call from us, and leave the rest to our specialised RV inspectors.

CARAVAN & MOTORHOME MOISTURE TEST

We provide specialised moisture testing for caravans and motorhomes using advanced diagnostic equipment to detect even the smallest traces of moisture trapped within the panels. Hidden moisture can lead to structural damage, rot, and mould, often going unnoticed until significant repairs are needed. Our testing can identify moisture issues even if there are no visible leak marks or odours, allowing you to address potential problems before they worsen.

This specialised test is particularly valuable for used caravans and motorhomes, as previous water exposure may not always be visible during a standard inspection. By detecting hidden moisture early, you can avoid unexpected repair costs and ensure the long-term durability of your vehicle.

Moisture testing is highly recommended even when purchasing a new caravan. Since all caravans are handmade, manufacturing inconsistencies can lead to undetected leaks. We have inspected many brand-new caravans with moisture issues, which can cause long-term damage if left unresolved. Identifying these problems early can help you avoid the hassle of warranty claims and ensure your caravan is in perfect condition from the start.

Moisture testing is not included in the standard pre-purchase inspection but can be added upon request for a more detailed evaluation. If booking online, simply add your request in the notes section. If booking by phone, let us know, and we’ll take care of it for you.

WHAT TYPE OF RVs DO WE INSPECT?

At Last Check, we perform specialised pre purchase inspections on all types of RVs in Australia. As mentioned above, this inspection is a specialised inspection done only by qualified RV mechanics.

At the same time depending on the vehicle type, the inspector who will carry out the inspection will be different.

European vehicles get done only by a European Mechanic, American and Asian RVs the same, they only get done by a qualified RV inspector with complete knowledge of the make and model.

Here is the list of recreational vehicles we inspect:

  • Class A Motorhome
  • Class C Motorhome
  • Campervan
  • Camper Bus
  • Camper Truck
  • Camper Trailer
  • Expander Caravans
  • Pop Top Caravans
  • Fifth Wheeler
  • Classic Caravan
  • Teardrop Caravans
  • Toy Hauler

PRE PURCHASE CARAVAN INSPECTION

Pre-purchase caravan inspections are conducted differently from other RV inspections. Caravans require an external power supply and connections to support all internal installations. If the caravan is connected to a power source, our fully qualified caravan inspector will check the equipment for you. If an external power connection is not possible, we will still inspect all the equipment as they are or using onboard power.

Many people replace equipment to suit their preferences after purchase, so the main factors affecting the vehicle's value are the mechanical and structural conditions, which we thoroughly inspect as well.

After checking the body, tyres, and structure, the inspector will go underneath the caravan to examine the chassis, suspension, hoses, wiring, and all other components, so you can rest assured that nothing will be overlooked. We will look for serious rust, chassis defects, suspension issues, and any safety risks that might pose a threat before travel.

The inspector will then enter the caravan and inspect all parts, including the furniture, cabinets, shower, hot water system, toilet, cooktop, fridge, air conditioning, windows, lights, and any other equipment that the caravan is fitted with. Essentially, anything visible will be professionally inspected for you.

We also check for water leak marks to identify any potential leaks that need attention. Your report will include an extensive photo album with hundreds of pictures for you to see all parts and defects with your own eyes.

If the results are satisfactory, we highly recommend conducting a water leak test by hosing down the caravan and checking inside. If you are concerned about the efficiency of appliances and electronics such as the fridge and solar panels, it’s best to spend some time before purchase to go through each item to ensure they meet your expectations. No mechanical experience is needed for this step, as all the hard and technical work will be carried out by our inspectors. It is just a wise idea before investment.

Based on the outcome of your inspection, the necessary steps will be outlined in your report to ensure the best investment. If we find that the caravan is not a good choice, you will be advised not to waste your time and to look for something else instead.

PRE PURCHASE MOTORHOME INSPECTION

Australia, we have two types of motorhomes: Class A motorhomes, which are large diesel motorhomes, and Class C motorhomes, which are the lighter versions. Class A motorhomes are mounted on a bus or truck chassis, requiring specialised knowledge to inspect, and we have you covered.

All heavy diesel motorhomes will be inspected by Licenced Heavy Diesel Mechanics with expertise in heavy vehicle technology and motorhome fit-out. Light motorhomes will be handled by Licensed Light Vehicle Mechanics with experience in motorhome construction and repair.

During the motorhome inspection, all parts of the vehicle will be thoroughly examined, not limited to the RV setup. The inspector will first check the vehicle mechanically before moving on to the living area and the RV components.

It’s important to note that even the best RV setup on a faulty vehicle holds little value, as the vehicle itself is the main component. Our qualified inspectors ensure that the vehicle you are considering is the right choice before commenting on the RV aspects, which are a separate matter.

We typically find numerous items that need attention on used motorhomes, and these issues are more prevalent than in caravans. However, there’s no need to worry when you have us involved, as we’re here to help you avoid making a wrong decision.

Rust is a significant concern for campervans, especially in Australia. The presence of red dust also contributes to critical rust development. However, you need not worry, as we conduct an extensive electronic rust assessment on these vehicles. We will uncover any hidden rust, even beneath the body paint, no matter how well it is concealed.

You will also receive an extensive photo album containing hundreds of pictures, allowing you to see everything for yourself and leaving nothing to guesswork.

If the campervan is worth purchasing, you will be informed, and you’ll have the opportunity to negotiate on items that need attention. If the motorhome is not worth purchasing, you will be advised to change your course without any regrets.

If you’re considering redesigning your motorhome or making any modifications, you can rely on your inspector for guidance and ideas on what can be safely done to the vehicle. They possess comprehensive knowledge of motorhome fit-out and can assist you throughout the process.

HEAVY CAMPERVAN INSPECTION

When it comes to bus and truck campers, the inspection process is entirely different, and the inspectors are also specialised. All heavy campers will be inspected by our Licensed Heavy Diesel Inspectors, who have expertise in heavy vehicle repair, maintenance, and inspection.

While the basics of the inspection are similar to that of light motorhomes, the specific elements we check will differ significantly. All mechanical parts of the heavy vehicle will be examined first, with special attention given to safety items such as the air brake system, engine brake system, speed limiter, brake air reservoir leaks, and any other components included in our bus and truck inspection. You can find the full details of what will be checked on heavy vehicles on our Bus Inspection page.

After assessing the mechanical aspects, the inspector will then move to the back to inspect the entire living area for you. In other words, all parts, electronics, and anything visible will be thoroughly inspected to ensure you’re not wasting your money on an inadequate inspection.

Our inspectors also possess comprehensive knowledge of RV fit-out and floor plans, so if you need assistance with changing the design or making modifications, you can rely on their expertise to provide you with brilliant ideas. If your motorhome is a heavy vehicle, such as a bus or truck, please visit our Bus Inspection page to make a booking.

END OF WARRANTY RV INSPECTION

We perform end of warranty inspections on all recreational vehicles including motorhomes, caravans and all camper trailers. End of warranty RV inspection is as popular as pre purchase inspections and we have helped hundreds of Australians in their journey.

We issue you a valid certificate with all the repairable items in it so that you can take it to your manufacturer and repair the RV free of charge.

As an authorised Australian vehicle inspection company, our end of warranty RV inspection reports can be used in all states so if you have bought your RV interstate, you can still use this service.

You can choose any of the plans below based on your RV type but you need to inform us on the online form or on the phone to ensure we do not mistake your inspection with pre purchase as we often use a different report form for the end of warranty inspections.

RV FINANCE INSPECTION

We offer finance inspections for all types of RVs across Australia. Our inspections provide you with a comprehensive report that can be used to secure your finance approval.

However, our RV finance inspection is not limited to just getting your finance approved. It also serves as a true condition report of the vehicle, alerting you if the RV is not a suitable choice and could lead to costly repairs in the future. In this way, the inspection serves two purposes.

Before ordering the finance inspection, it’s a good idea to show our sample report form (available on this page) to your finance provider to confirm if they accept it. Sometimes, finance companies have their own forms that need to be filled out, which we can still complete either free of charge or at a small additional cost.

If this applies, you will need to send us the required form in advance to ensure we can assist you, so your money isn’t wasted on the inspection. While we’ve never had a finance form rejected, we want to make sure everything is in order before you proceed with payment.

You can choose from any of the RV inspection plans listed below, based on your RV type, and inform us via the online form or over the phone, so we can provide the appropriate service for you.

FULLY INSURED, COMPLETE PEACE OF MIND!

At Last Check, we ensure that no pre-purchase inspection is conducted without full insurance coverage. Our priority is to provide peace of mind for both the seller and the buyer, assuring them that if anything happens to the vehicle, we are fully insured.

We provide insurance for all inspected vehicles up to $100,000, along with public liability coverage between $5 million and $20 million, in case of an at-fault accident or any damage we may cause. While we are fully committed to returning the vehicle to the seller in its original condition, without disassembling any parts, we want both parties to feel reassured that they are covered in the rare event of an incident.

Our inspectors handle all vehicles with the utmost care and perform mobile roadside inspections at safe, secure locations for both the owner and the inspector. All necessary safety measures are followed to minimise risk. Nonetheless, our insurance is in place should any issue arise.

Whether the inspection takes place at a dealership or a private residence, our inspectors will not begin until they are certain that the vehicle is insured. This provides valuable reassurance to all parties that the vehicle inspection company they’ve engaged is professional and will not put their vehicle at risk in any way.

EXPERIENCE A REAL PREMIUM SERVICE!

Our main goal is to exceed our valuable clients’ expectations by providing a Vehicle Inspection Service unlike any other along with the best possible customer service.

Customer satisfaction is our number one priority, and we take this very seriously. Our Licenced Inspectors do not look at any client as a number, they look at each car as if they want to buy it for themselves. This is how they have been trained before joining our force.

Our premium inspection plans include more checks which makes a big difference however our basic packages are still very comprehensive.

For each inspection, your inspector will get a different checklist and the vehicle inspection will not end until the list is completed. The checklist intensity and inclusions are based on the inspection package you have chosen, and different plans have different inclusions.

After the inspection, your inspector will call you and give you a complete verbal report over the phone. You will then have the chance to ask all mechanical questions from the same mechanic who has inspected your vehicle.

Within 24 hours of the inspection, you will receive a 40+ Page Detailed Report along with Hundreds of Pictures, Vehicle History Report (PPSR Report), your payment receipt and all other associated documents. To see what the report looks like, please visit the Sample Report page.

If your plan includes Urgent SMS Report that can be added to your service before checkout, you will get the report normally on the same day via SMS. If you are making a phone booking, you can ask us to upgrade your report to urgent. To learn more about us, please visit Why Last Check & Only @ Last Check.
