THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT IMPORTED CARS

Purchasing both new and used imported vehicles carries significantly greater risks compared to local vehicles. Key concerns include uncertainty about the vehicle’s true history, previous ownership, the condition of the underbody (particularly rust), the frequency of servicing, and whether the car has been involved in past accidents.

Imported vehicles from certain regions, such as Asia, tend to be even riskier. Unfortunately, some overseas sellers manipulate service records and vehicle condition reports before export. In many cases, vehicles involved in collisions and deemed unsellable domestically are repaired and exported instead.

With limited means to verify such claims, buyers often rely solely on the seller’s word, taking on unnecessary risk. To avoid uncertainty and make an informed purchase, it is always best to eliminate guesswork and proceed with full transparency.

PROS & CONS OF BUYNG IMPORTED CARS

Imported cars offer several advantages that make them appealing to many buyers. For instance, they often provide access to unique and exotic models, such as the Nissan Skyline and Toyota Supra, which offer exciting driving experiences not found in local vehicles. Many imported cars are also more affordable than their local counterparts, like the Toyota HiAce and Mitsubishi Delica, making them an attractive option for those on a budget. Additionally, imported vehicles like the Toyota Vellfire and Nissan Elgrand are often better equipped than Australian models, offering added luxury and comfort. When it comes to disability vehicles, imports from Japan and Europe tend to be more cost-effective and come fully set up, ready for use without the need for expensive local modifications.

However, purchasing an imported car does come with its drawbacks. One of the biggest risks is the lack of transparency regarding the vehicle’s history. Buyers often have to rely on the information provided by the seller, which may not always be accurate, particularly when it comes to past accidents and maintenance. Sourcing spare parts for imported vehicles can also be a significant challenge, as they may not be readily available in Australia, requiring costly overseas shipments. Furthermore, many mechanics lack experience working on imported cars, which can make repairs more expensive and harder to find a specialist for. Lastly, imported vehicles especially those from regions like Asia are often prone to rust, particularly in uncoated areas such as the chassis and suspension, which can be difficult or even impossible to repair.

Despite these challenges, a pre-purchase import car inspection can help mitigate many of the risks. By ensuring the vehicle is thoroughly checked by an expert, buyers can make a more informed decision and avoid costly surprises.

WHO INSPECTS IMPORT CARS AT LAST CHECK?

At Last Check, we have a team of fully qualified, senior licensed mechanics who are experts in imported car inspection and repair. Each of our import car inspectors has extensive knowledge of import vehicles, including their unique repair needs, bodywork, and registration compliance. When you book your pre-purchase inspection, we ensure the right specialist is assigned based on the make and model of the imported car, so you receive the most accurate and informed advice.

Not all imported vehicles are inspected by the same specialist. Depending on the make, model, and region, we assign an inspector who is thoroughly familiar with the specific vehicle to ensure no detail is overlooked. For example, the checklist for an Imported Toyota Vellfire is different from that of a Toyota Alphard, even though both are made by the same manufacturer, and each is distinct from the checklist we use for a Toyota Crown.

Our inspection process is tailored to each vehicle, with a unique checklist designed to ensure that nothing goes undetected. After the inspection, you’ll have a direct conversation with the inspector, who will walk you through all the findings and answer any questions you may have. This gives you the opportunity to discuss technical concerns and receive expert advice, ensuring you can make your final decision with complete confidence.

Rest assured, this is not a job for an ordinary mechanic. Our senior licensed mechanics, with backgrounds in import car repair, bodywork, and registration compliance, have the experience and expertise to give you comprehensive, accurate advice on every aspect of the vehicle. From A to Z, you can rely on their advice and feel confident in your purchasing decision.

FULLY INSURED, COMPLETE PEACE OF MIND!

At Last Check, we ensure that no pre-purchase inspection is conducted without full insurance coverage. Our priority is to provide peace of mind for both the seller and the buyer, assuring them that if anything happens to the vehicle, we are fully insured.

We provide insurance for all inspected vehicles up to $100,000, along with public liability coverage between $5 million and $20 million, in case of an at-fault accident or any damage we may cause. While we are fully committed to returning the vehicle to the seller in its original condition, without disassembling any parts, we want both parties to feel reassured that they are covered in the rare event of an incident.

Our inspectors handle all vehicles with the utmost care and perform mobile roadside inspections at safe, secure locations for both the owner and the inspector. All necessary safety measures are followed to minimise risk. Nonetheless, our insurance is in place should any issue arise.

Whether the inspection takes place at a dealership or a private residence, our inspectors will not begin until they are certain that the vehicle is insured. This provides valuable reassurance to all parties that the vehicle inspection company they’ve engaged is professional and will not put their vehicle at risk in any way.

EXPERIENCE A REAL PREMIUM SERVICE!

Our main goal is to exceed our valuable clients’ expectations by providing a Vehicle Inspection Service unlike any other along with the best possible customer service.

Customer satisfaction is our number one priority, and we take this very seriously. Our Licenced Inspectors do not look at any client as a number, they look at each car as if they want to buy it for themselves. This is how they have been trained before joining our force.

Our premium inspection plans include more checks which makes a big difference however our basic packages are still very comprehensive.

For each inspection, your inspector will get a different checklist and the vehicle inspection will not end until the list is completed. The checklist intensity and inclusions are based on the inspection package you have chosen, and different plans have different inclusions.

After the inspection, your inspector will call you and give you a complete verbal report over the phone. You will then have the chance to ask all mechanical questions from the same mechanic who has inspected your vehicle.

Within 24 hours of the inspection, you will receive a 40+ Page Detailed Report along with Hundreds of Pictures, Vehicle History Report (PPSR Report), your payment receipt and all other associated documents. To see what the report looks like, please visit the Sample Report page.

If your plan includes Urgent SMS Report that can be added to your service before checkout, you will get the report normally on the same day via SMS. If you are making a phone booking, you can ask us to upgrade your report to urgent. To learn more about us, please visit Why Last Check & Only @ Last Check.
